What it is
The Flip-Through presents a notebook as a book: a cover, two-page spreads in the order you wrote them, and animated page turns. Opening a notebook plays a quick riffle through its pages before settling on the most recent spread — the digital version of a journal flip-through. Free on every plan.
Why it matters
Your notes are pages of a real notebook, and a grid of thumbnails doesn't feel like one. The Flip-Through restores the object: the sequence, the spreads, the turn of a page. It's the fastest way to re-experience a notebook rather than search it.
How to use it
- Open: tap any notebook card — the book opens over your dashboard. (From inside a notebook's page list, use Flip through your notebook.)
- Turn pages: the arrows beside the book, your keyboard's ← / → keys, or a sideways swipe on a phone. The book has a real start and end: page back far enough and it closes onto its cover.
- Read a page: tap it. The page opens in the full Note Viewer with Live Highlights on, and pages are numbered oldest-first so swiping matches the book's direction. The back arrow returns you to the same spread — and if you edit the page from there, saving brings you back into the book too.
- Add a page: the + Add a page link under the book starts a new transcription filed into this notebook; after the reveal, the back arrow drops the new page into the book.
- Cover and settings: tap the cover to edit the notebook — including the First Page setting. Most notebooks start on the right-hand page (the default); choose Left if yours starts on the left, and the whole book re-pairs instantly.
- Close: the ✕, the Escape key, or a tap on the blurred background.
Tips
- Pages pair into spreads by their Date Written — the same order as everywhere else in SandDune. Fix a page's date from its Edit screen and it moves to the right place in the book.
- A notebook cover photo makes the opening beat — the closed book — feel like yours.
- Deep in a long notebook? Opening the flip always lands on the most recent spread; page backward to travel into the past.
Current limitations
- The opening riffle is capped at the last ten spreads on long notebooks, and skipped when your system asks for reduced motion.
- Photos fill their page edge-to-edge, so a very tall or very wide photo is cropped to the page shape in the book — tap the page to see the full photo in the viewer.
